Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas, 1 August 2012. There were lots of these little sand balls, thrown out by some mollusc, I expect. Not all in such pretty patterns, though.

Great picture. I believe the balls are made by a sand baller crab. They sift the sand for food and roll the cleaned sand into balls so they know what sand they’ve checked out.
